This essential sports reference work was originally published by Guinness in 1995 and has been thoroughly revised and updated exclusively for KnowUK by the author, Peter Matthews. He has updated career details of established sportspeople and added many new profiles of current sportspeople. Peter now supplies us with updates throughout the year, to ensure that our sports information is always current. Peter has also been the Editor of the International Athletics Annual (now published by SportsBooks Ltd, 24 St Georges Square, Worcester WR1 1HX, UK) since 1984 and is co-publisher of Athletics International. Having been Sports Editor from 1982, he was Editor of the Guinness Book of Records from 1991 to 1995.

Peter, who lives in Hertfordshire, has collected information on sport from the age of eight. While passionate about a wide range of sports, especially cricket, he has specialised in athletics, on which he has commented for BBC Radio 1975-85, ITV 1985-96, IAAF from 1991 and Sky Sports from 2001. He has also been the public address announcer at major athletics meetings in Britain from 1968, including the 1970 Commonwealth Games and 1994 World Cup. He has worked at seven Olympic Games and all outdoor World Championships in athletics.
